April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Abuse and neglect often have lifelong consequences for a child, including a greater chance of delinquency, criminal involvement, school failure, drug addiction, chronic health problems, mental health issues and an overall drop-off in productivity of the individual.  Missouri KidsFirst encourages you to: learn the facts about child abuse and neglect, and understand the risks; keep communication with children open; stay alert for signs of possible abuse; act on suspicions of abuse by calling the Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-392-3738; and get involved in child abuse prevention.  Child Abuse Prevention is the responsibility of each of us.
